St. Charles Parish residents affected by tornado dealing with home insurance

St. Charles Parish was hit by a devastating tornado on Wednesday, and homeowners are saying that home insurance is only making their lives worse. Marshelia Smith lives in Killona and had her home destroyed by the tornado. However, she says home insurance will only cover two weeks of hotel stay. “We are paying insurance… and for nothing. Why are we paying insurance?” said Smith. Smith is not the only one in the area that has dealt with the same fate, as many insurance companies have pulled out of the area after Hurricane Ida. Rodney Woods, who also lives in Killona, lives along the same street where Allison Alexander died during the tornado. Woods says, though, that the community is coming together to help each other heal. “My faith in God tells me in mysterious ways…It’s just a way of bringing people together,” said Woods. The main hope for many is for a speedy recovery, though right now, the future seems bleak for some. If you need any assistance with dealing with tornado recovery in St. Charles Parish, call the EOC at 985-783-5050.
